About Psychological Astrology

What Is Psychological Astrology?

Psychological astrology is a branch of astrology that focuses on inner experience rather than external prediction. Instead of asking “What will happen?”, it asks “What is unfolding within me, and why?”

Rooted in depth psychology, particularly the work of Carl Jung, psychological astrology views the birth chart as a symbolic map of the psyche. It reflects patterns of behaviour, emotional needs, inner conflicts, and potential for growth. The chart becomes a tool for self-awareness — not a fixed script, but a language through which we can better understand ourselves.

This approach differs from more traditional or predictive forms of astrology, such as:

  • Traditional astrology, which often focuses on fate, timing, and concrete life events

  • Electional astrology, used to choose the “best” timing for events

  • Modern/pop astrology, which can sometimes simplify astrology into personality traits or generalised horoscopes

…just to name a few, there are plenty other styles and areas of specialisation.

Psychological astrology, by contrast, is less concerned with certainty and more with meaning. It invites reflection, personal responsibility, and conscious engagement with one’s inner world.

In a session, the chart is not something to “read off,” but something we explore together. The symbols become entry points into deeper conversations about identity, relationships, emotional patterns, and life direction. Challenges are not seen as problems to fix, but as parts of the psyche asking to be understood and integrated.

My own approach is informed by training with both the Centre for Psychological Astrology (CPA) and MISPA (Mercury Internet School of Psychological Astrology). These schools emphasise a thoughtful, psychologically grounded, and ethically aware practice of astrology — one that honours both the complexity of the individual and the symbolic richness of the chart.

At its heart, psychological astrology is about awareness.
And with awareness comes choice, compassion, and the possibility of change.
